The word 'addiction' is used a great deal. A person can become addicted to almost anything, from shopping to sex, from drugs to online gambling. Our culture has put a wide range of choices on the shelves of the addiction supermarket. I take a Christian approach to the radical change that is needed, so that the story of addiction in a person's life can become a story of freedom. By His death on the cross, Jesus opened a way for human beings to come to the Father and be reconciled to Him. This is the most fundamental exodus — the journey from death and sin to hope and deliverance. Moreover, as Alcoholics Anonymous recognized long ago, this kind of recovery is not built on human solutions. In fact, offering merely human solutions is often part of the problem of addiction itself! One key to freedom is acknowledging that we cannot save ourselves. We have always needed a Savior! I hope Insight into Addiction will be a help to those who wrestle with addiction and to those who seek to come alongside them.
